Selex Consolidates Position As Italy’s Third Largest Grocer

Selex Group has consolidated its position as the third largest grocery retailer in Italy, holding an 11.9% market share, as a result of 2016 sales of €10.35 billion (+4%).

Data presented at the annual Shareholders Assembly for the first quarter of 2017 show that Selex achieved a growth in sales during the period of 1.6%, rising to 2.7% when new store openings are considered (the store total now surpasses 2,500).

New Openings

Between January and June 2017, 24 new stores were opened out of the 57 planned by December. The Group is forecasting a turnover of €10.78 billion this year (+ 4.2% compared to 2016).

The Group has allocated over €215 million in 2017 for new openings, the restructuring of more than 50 stores, the implementation of measures to limit the environmental impact and the more efficient management of energy resources.

Part of the resources will also be used for the launch of CosìComodo, an e-commerce portal that brings together the offer of multiple brands of the Selex Group.
