Spanish retailer DIA Group has opened its first stores in the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro.
The company initially expects to open 32 establishments with a local partner, bringing its entire range to the region, which has a population of more than 16 million inhabitants.
Since starting operations in Brazil over 15 years ago, DIA Brasil is now present in five Brazilian states: São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Bahia, Rio Grande do Sul and Rio de Janeiro.
Over the last five years, DIA Brasil has shown a 16% year-on-year increase in the network, going from 480 stores in 2011 to more than 1,000. The retailer recently opened its sixth warehouse, in Mauá, in the state of São Paulo, to facilitate distribution to its network of stores.
This week, the first DIA store in Paraguay also began operations in partnership with Distribuidora Gloria, a leading player in the country, with a significant national distribution network.
