The food distribution industry in Spain and Portugal is expected to reach sales of €102.3 billion in 2016, an increase of 2.3% compared to 2015, according to figures from the Observatorio Sectorial DBK.
As reported by lainformacion.com, the cash & carry sector will gain momentum, with an estimated increase in profit of 3.5% compared to last year. This is due to an increase in consumption by Spanish and Portuguese households.
In Spain, the market grew by 1.9% to €85.5 billion, while Portuguese markets increased by 1% to €14.5 billion.
The report credited the growth to an increase in visits to food retailers, as well as the growing importance of fresh produce to consumers.
