Spar Austria has announced that two of the most longstanding members of its executive board, chairman Dr. Gerhard Drexel and Rudolf Staudinger are to retire at the end of 2020.
Drexel has served on the executive board of Spar Holding AG for 31 years, including 20 years as chairman, and will move to the group's supervisory board, where he will take over as chairman.
Staudinger, meanwhile, has spent 18 years on the board, and 36 years in total with the retailer.
New Chief Executive
From 1 January next, Fritz Poppmeier will be installed as the group's new chief executive, while Hans K. Reisch. Marcus Wild, Markus Kaser and Paul Klotz will all be appointed to the board, with each individual having worked at the retailer for many years.
'In order to ensure continuity in corporate management, Spar started the discussion about the replacement at an early stage and decided to align itself even more strongly as a Central European retail group,' Spar Austria said in a statement.
'For this reason, five directors will be active on the group executive board in the future, instead of four. Spar is particularly proud that all functions, including the subsequent appointments, could all be filled with existing Spar executives'.
