The SPAR Austria Group has opened new regional headquarters and logistics centre for Emilia-Romagna in Castel San Pietro Terme.
The area covered in Italy by the retailer, which is also active in Austria, Hungary, Slovenia, and Croatia, has now expanded to all of north-eastern Italy.
New Regional Headquarters
The new 18,000 square metre building with 25,500 pallet spaces in the Ca 'Bianca industrial area in Castel San Pietro Terme, which has now been opened, serves as a logistics platform for dry goods as well as local and fresh products in the region.
The group hopes the move will make the distribution channels between food manufacturers and the SPAR locations more efficient.
The Emilia-Romagna region has 4.5 million inhabitants, half as many as Austria.
SPAR Austria board member, Paul Klotz, explained, "Our goal is to continue to be successful in Emilia-Romagna with a consistent growth and expansion strategy. We want to continue this growth course with the opening of INTERSPAR in Imola on 12 November 2021. This also requires a suitable basis. For this reason we have invested €33 million in the construction of the new regional headquarters in Castel San Pietro."
"We continue to promote and support the local production chains and thus strengthen the economic and personal connections in the Emilia-Romagna region by increasingly bringing the region's excellent food onto our shelves," he added.
SPAR Austria operates in around 3,000 locations in Austria, northeast Italy, Hungary, Slovenia, and Croatia.
