Spar Austria has posted a gross sales turnover of €6.42 billion in full year 2016, an increase of 5.3% on the previous financial year.
The group attributed the growth to the acquisition and integration of 28 sites in the eastern part of Austria, as well as 'strong capital expansion and modernisation.
Spar Austria boasts 1,620 outlets across the country. In the past year, the group has unveiled a new store concept focusing on fresh and food to go, which it intends to roll out over the coming year.
Spar Austria chief executive Gerhard Drexel said that the company's achievements was an indication that its customers appreciate its "attractive stores and innovative product range."
Spar Austria also operates 1,128 Spar and Eurospar stores and 98 Interspar hypermarkets in neighbouring countries Italy, Hungary, Slovenia and Croatia. Together, these markets achieved a total turnover of €4.86 billion, growth of 3.4% year-on-year.
The group created more than 2,500 new jobs in 2016, of which 1,360 were located in Austria.
