Spar Colruyt Group will reopen two refurbished supermarkets, in Diest and Kalken in Belgium, on 28 November.
The refurbished store in Diest has a sales area of almost 1,000 square metres and employs around 20 people.
The fresh produce department has been modernised and expanded to offer products of better quality.
Quality Fresh Produce
Store owner, Filip Claes, said, "The reputation of our quality fresh produce reaches far beyond Diest. We wanted to further improve on that. That’s why we installed better equipment and increased the retail area."
Other highlights of the store include fresh bakery products and a wide choice of home-made dishes at the delicatessen counter.
The store also offers charcuterie and cheese platters as well as tapas dishes.
Elsewhere in Kalken, the renovated store is spread across a retail area of 1,000 square metres. The retailer also expanded the car parking, which can now house up to 110 vehicles.
Sustainable Technologies
The store focuses on sustainable technologies and has been decorated to match the style of other Spar convenience stores.
Philippe Serraes, store-owner, said, "We want to focus more on our fresh produce departments and create an authentic market feeling. Our bakery bakes fresh bread and cakes several times a day. Our fruit and vegetables will be presented in an even more open and attractive way."
The supermarket uses geothermal heat pumps for its heating and cooling requirements.
The residual heat from the cold stores is reused to heat the apartments above the store.
Single-Dish Restaurant
Another highlight of the supermarket is a 60-seater a single-dish restaurant and tearoom called Margriet, named after Serraes' grandmother.
It will serve a single dish and its vegetarian version along with home-made cakes and pastries.
Both stores are hosting an opening reception for customers on 27 November between 18:00 and 21:00.
