Spar has increased its presence in Spain with a series of new store openings and renovations undertaken by its partners, Líder Aliment, Fragadis, Grupo Upper, and Agrucan, in the last quarter of 2019.
These new stores come as Spar seeks to strengthen its position in the Spanish market, adding roughly 3,000 square metres of retail space in different regions across the country.
Líder Aliment
Líder Aliment has opened two new franchised Spar stores and reopened another, as well as opening a Eurospar Supermarket.
Its new Spar store in Badajoz features 200 square metres of sales surface area, while the new store in Zarza de Granadilla, Cáceres, features a sales surface of 380 square metres.
Badajoz also saw the reopening of a 280 square metre store in Jerez de los Caballeros, as well as a 1,175 square metre Eurospar Supermarket in Castuera, with a staff of 26 employees.
The three Spar stores offer a range of between 3,300 and 4,200 SKUs, while the Eurospar supermarket features around 6,100 SKUs.
Fragadis
Fragadis has opened four new Spar stores, each of which has incorporated energy-efficient cooling systems and LED technology, while the three larger outlets have also installed screens at key points around the store, providing customers with store updates and practical advice, such as recipes.
Of the four new openings, its store in Huesca, Aragón has a sales area of 800 square metres, its second, a Eurospar in Linoya, Lérida, has an area of over 1,000 square metres, the third, in the centre of Tarragona, comprises an area of 650 square metres, while the fourth, is a 660 square metre store in the Carolinas Altas neighbourhood of Alicante.
Grupo Upper
Elsewhere, Grupo Upper has reopened a Spar store and opened a new Spar Express in the province of Murcia.
Following several months of renovations, the group reopened a 900 square metre Spar store in Caravaca de la Cruz.
Agrucan
Finally, Agrucan has opened a new Spar outelt in Aleje, Tenerife. The store covers a surface area of 200 square metres.
