The recent launch of the Spar brand in Aix-en-Provence was a success, Spar France announced on Monday.
In the period before the opening, the store launched an SMS raffle campaign and distributed 2,500 promotional leaflets. Business and institutional representatives attending the grand opening, which offered taste-tests of different products.
The new 275 metre-square outlet has emphasised food-to-go and fresh foods, in order to optimise convenience options.
The supermarket features an in-store bakery, rotisserie, organic ranges and a wine department designed to create a 'vineyard atmosphere', with wooden crates and trendy displays.
There is also a microwave available for heating up meals, handy for the large university population of hungry students nearby.
The stock management system is complemented by electronic shelf labels to make the process more efficient. Screens dotted throughout the store highlight promotional offers for customers.
On average, there are 500 transactions per day, with an average basket value of €8, the company reported.
