Tobias Wasmuht, managing director of Spar China and the head of marketing and retail for Spar International, has been announced as the next managing director of Spar International.
He will succeed Gordon Campbell, who will retire at the end of the year after 22 years of leading the retail group.
The announcement was made at the 60th International Spar Congress, which is taking place this week in Vienna, Austria.
Praising Campbell's contribution to the organisation, chairman of Spar International Leo Crawford said, “Over the last two decades, Gordon has made an extraordinary contribution to Spar International and is a pioneer in the world of global retail. His commitment and leadership have seen Spar undergo exceptional growth and expansion.
"On behalf of the International Spar Board, Spar Partners and everyone who works for Spar, I wish to sincerely thank him for his leadership.”
Wasmuht will take up his position in January 2016.
At the Congress, Spar International announced global retail sales for the year ending 31 December 2014 of €31.9 billion, with sales driven by entry into ten new territories. This includes five new countries in Asia, Africa and Eastern Europe, in addition to new regions in Russia and China.
