Spar opened 25 new stores and restructured another 18 stores in Italy last year, as part of an investment worth over €100 million.
The new openings included both directly managed stores and those entrusted to other retailers.
Among the new supermarkets are seven stores that the company took over in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region from the Cooperative Operaie di Trieste.
Despar Nordest confirmed its position of market leader in its region with a 15.42 per cent share across its store formats; Despar, Eurospar and Interspar.
For the first time overall turnover surpassed €2 billion, an increase of 5.5 per cent year on year, well above the average market growth of 1.9 per cent.
