Spar India has opened a fourth hypermarket, in Hyderabad. The market, located in the 'Paradise Mall' in the Nacharam suburb, has a retail area of around 5,400 sq m. It offers fresh foods including fish, meat, bread and delicatessen, a 'Food-to-Go' service and a 'Home & Living' department.
The new market's customers, for the most part from three-generational, local families have responded favourably to the open layout, wide aisles and product range. The range of 'Home & Living' furnishings was particularly well-received.
Managing Director of Spar India, Rajeev Krishnan, has stated that the group aims to expand by 30% over the next 12 to 18 months, expecting to increase the hypermarkets' profitability and efficiency through innovative technologies and further develop the range of private label products, which currently accounts for around 10% of the turnover.
Alongside the hypermarkets, Spar India operates an online shopping platform for customers in Bengaluru, which it may extend to other cities. The platform offers same-day delivery, payment by credit card and coupons (for cash or food), delivering orders over RS 1,000 for free.
