SPAR has announced that it has opened its first one-person shop in the Netherlands.
The mobile SPAR mini store, housed in a converted shipping container, is equipped with a self-scan checkout for contactless payments.
CEO of SPAR Netherlands, John van der Ent, believes that the store format is perfect for the ‘new normal’, as it also ensures social distancing by allowing only one shopper at a time.
Van der Ent inaugurated the store in the municipality of Waalwijk and commented, “With the SPAR mini we can offer consumers a quick breakfast, tasty lunch, healthy snack or a snack in unexpected places and surprising moments."
The retailer plans to take the mobile store to tourist locations with limited facilities so that people can purchase food and beverages safely and with ease.
