Spar Shandong had added new stores to its growing portfolio, with the opening of hypermarkets in the Chinese cities of Zhangjiakou and Dongying.
In December, Spar Shandong opened a new hypermarket in Shibo Shopping Centre, located near a high-speed railway station in Hebei’s Zhangjiakou. The new store has a total sales area of 11,000 square metres.
At the store, customers can avail of click and collect services thanks to a suspension shelving and distributing system, which means each order can be picked and packed within five minutes, and be ready for customers within 30 minutes.
The store also utilises electronic shelf labels (ESL) that help curb material costs and create a more engaging shopping experience, the retailer said.

A new supermarket at Wangfujing Shopping Centre in Dongying was also opened in December 2020. The supermarket covers a sales area of 2,000 square metres.
At the store, customers can purchase fruit and vegetables that are supplied from over 1,500 local farmlands through a farm-to-store programme. This direct sourcing initiative helps Spar Shandong cater to shoppers’ needs while supporting local farmers and fresh producers, it said.
Spar Shandong opened its first store in 2005, in the city of Weihai, in north-east China.
