South Africa's Spar Group has announced that its chief executive, Graham O'Connor, will be retiring from his position at the group's next annual general meeting, to be held next year.
O'Connor will, however, be remaining as a non-executive director and chairman of the Spar Group board.
Mike Hankinson, the current chairman, is also set to retire, the group said.
As well as operating the Spar brand in South African and neighbouring countries, Spar Group also has extensive operations in Europe – in Ireland, Switzerland, Poland and south west England.
New Chief Executive
Spar Group has announced that Brett Botten, the current managing director of Spar South Rand will be appointed its new chief executive.
Botten joined Spar Group in 1994, and has led Spar South Rand since 2010. He also previously served as managing director of Spar North Rand, Spar Lowveld and Spar Eastern Cape.
Commenting on Hankinson's departure and O'Connor's new role, the group said, "'The board would like to thank Mike for his stellar service and steadying hand. [...] His guidance, sound leadership and strategic input has helped the group grow strongly over more than a decade and wish him well in his retirement.
"Further thanks are extended to Graham for his tenure as group CEO and member of the international board for the past six years and the board looks forward to working under his guidance as non-executive chairman."
