Spar South Africa has announced that Clive Gould, store manager at Spar Glenacres in Kempton Park, Johannesburg, has been recognised at the 2017 Store Manager Awards.
Awarded by the Food Marketing Institute (FMI), the prize recognises 'outstanding managers who are committed to the communities and stores, and demonstrate remarkable leadership'. Gould won in the international category, and was one of 100 nominees.
Leslie Sarasin, president and CEO of FMI, said that the winners of this award demonstrated "exemplary leadership".
“In today’s shifting food retail landscape, store managers must possess a unique mixture of skills to keep their stores on a successful path of smooth operations, quality customer service, meaningful community involvement and inviting shopping atmosphere."

Roelf Venter, chairman of the guild of Spar grocers in South Africa, said that this is "a well deserved award for a truly exceptional individual".
"Under Clive’s leadership, Spar Glenacres was awarded the Spar Store of the Year in South Africa. His attention to detail, his passion for retail and his interaction with his staff and customers are inspirational."
Managing director of Spar International Tobias Wasmuht added, “As the world’s largest voluntary food retail chain, Spar International has many fantastic managers across our 12,500 stores in 44 countries. However, to receive this type of international recognition is truly exceptional."
