Spar has added to its store portfolio in Spain, with the opening of new locations in Alicante, Barcelona, Seville and other cities, as well as undertaking a number of refurbishments.
A wide mix of stores was opened in the fourth quarter of 2020, with Spar largely following the global trend towards proximity retailing, opening a large number of small convenience stores rather than large-scale operations.
Spar has also experimented with its new stores, offering services such as home delivery, various fresh counters, and region-specific produce sections, among other initiatives.
The group also integrated elements of sustainability into the new and refurbished stores, with energy-efficient fridges installed in a recently refurbished location in Gran Canaria.
The expansion and refurbishments have created 134 jobs, spread across the various locations.
