Spar Spain has broadened its retail offering in the country over the last few months, opening multiple new stores and sinking funds into renovating two existing supermarkets.
Between April and June of 2018, Spar Spain added 2,800 square metres to its selling space, due to the work of five partners on the islands and the mainland. These new 'state-of-the-art' supermarkets meet 'the diverse needs of both local and foreign shoppers', the company said.
Store Expansion
The retail group's partners opened a variety of new stores in diverse format. Grupo Upper, Spar Spain's partner in Alicante, opened two new Spar stores near the cities of Los Montesinos and Santa Pola.
The store in Los Montesinos has 600 square metres of selling space, accompanied by a butcher's counter, bakery, deli, and fresh fish counter.
In Santa Pola, the group opened a compact 150 square-metre Spar City store. It features a self-service deli area, fresh fruit and vegetables, baked goods, and a meat counter.
Large Spanish chain, Spar Gran Canaria, which is present in all 21 municipalities of the popular travel destination, opened a new 200 metre-square store in the municipality of Artenara. The new store has a large variety of own-brand products, fresh produce offering, and also a home delivery service.
'The new opening is an important milestone for Spar Gran Canaria, increasing its presence on the island and making fresh produce from the mainland more readily available to customers, whilst also contributing to the advancement of the local retail sector,' Spar Spain said in a statement.
Its stores in this region now total 178 Spar Supermarkets, staffed by nearly 3,000 employees.
Spar partners Ignacio de las Cuevas, Agrucan S.L., and Fragadis opened a total of two new Spar Express stores in the towns of Maceda and Baltar, a Spar supermarket in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and two Spar supermarkets in the province of Tarragona.
Revamping Existing Supermarkets
Two supermarkets were also refurbished on the island of Gran Canaria, in the capital of Las Palmas and the town of Valsequillo.
Both stores offer a 'bright, modern design' and are equipped with vertical refrigerators, LED lighting, and other energy-saving technologies.
