Slovenia’s second largest retailer Spar is planning to open its 100th store in 2016, following positive sales results for 2015.
Speaking on the business results for 2015, director general Igor Mervič expressed his satisfaction that the company has operated without losses during its 25 years in Slovenia.
Spar performed better than the market average in 2015, generating revenues of €732.6 million (compared to €729.6 million in 2014) and net profit of around €18.4 million.
Mervič attributed the positive performance to the introduction of the Spar City format and the Spar To Go ready meals, as well as the the Spar loyalty card.
Last year, Spar Slovenija opened five new stores (in Maribor, Trzin, Medvode, Sempeter and Ljubljana), taking the total to 97.
However, this figure does not include franchised stores – the first was opened last September and another three have since followed. By the end of 2016, Spar expects the number of franchised stores to reach ten.
