Spar International has announced that its Spar Hellas division has opened eight stores in Greece since the brand entered the market in early 2018.
The group is confident that it will be able to open as many as 80 stores by the end of the year, and intends to develop more than 350 stores by 2022.
The company announced in March that it was entering the Greek market, and signed a cooperation agreement with the local retailer Asturas Group to convert most of its existing stores to the new banner.
Largest Store
It recently announced the opening of its largest store in Greece, Spar Koutelieris, which has seen its sales space double from 800 square metres to 1,500 square metres, creating 45 new jobs in the process.
In the next few weeks, the group plans to open more stores in the cities of Larissa, Agrinio, Rhodes and Kythnos, where Spar aims to open 18 stores before the end of August.
Commenting on the group's plans earlier this year, Fivos Karakitsos, chief executive of Spar Hellas commented “Spar is establishing [itself] in Greece in order to develop the most modern cooperative network of independent retail stores in the country,”
