Spar Zimbabwe has announced plans to grow its business further in 2017, having established itself as a new, wholly locally owned company last year.
At the start of 2016, Spar International granted Spar Zimbabwe shareholders the licence to operate the Spar brand in the country, and the group has sought to develop its business over the past year.
There are currently 21 Spar stores in the country that are operated by independent Zimbabwean retailers, as well as ten outlets operated by Spar Zimbabwe Ltd. Spar Zimbabwe also operates a centralised warehouse in the market, while neighbouring Spar South Africa also supplies a range of products.
"Since its establishment in 1932, Spar has grown by following the principle of working together for mutual benefit and growth," said Tobias Wasmuht, managing director, Spar International.
"We are confident that Spar Zimbabwe Ltd is able to support and work with the licensed independent retailers to continue to deliver excellent service to their customers. We will support Spar Zimbabwe Ltd fully to develop their supply chain and expand their retail footprint across the country.”
Spar International's Wasmuht is one of the key speakers at the Checkout Conference 2017, taking place in Dublin, Ireland, at the end of this month.
