Spice manufacturer RAPS GmbH & Co. KG, based in Kulmbach, Germany, has announced the acquisition of the table salt business of Salz Centrale Hamburg.
The acquisition, which has been implemented with immediate effect, was undertaken through RAPS' majority holding in Biova GmbH.
It will add a 'wide range of natural salts to the [RAPS] portfolio and expand the global network of suppliers', the company said in a statement.
Growth Strategy
"Part of our growth strategy is not only to grow by our own efforts, but also greatly expand our competence through acquisitions," commented Florian Knell, CEO of the RAPS Group. "Here, the purchase of Salz Centrale is another huge step forward."
Knell, who has led RAPS since 2017, added that the purchase sets the tone for potential future acquisitions in the future.
According to Dirk Carstensen, founder of Salz Centrale Hamburg, the time has come for a change to the business, following more than 20 years as managing director, "It is a stroke of luck that we came to RAPS through our close relationship with BIOVA. I am sure that I am leaving my life's work in good hands and that my long-standing customers will continue to be well looked after."
BIOVA Integration
The Salz Centrale Hamburg business is to be integrated into Biova's production facility near Stuttgart.
"With Salz Centrale, we are not only welcoming friends to our Wildberg facility, but also further expanding our excellent market position for high-quality specialty salts and strengthening our European distribution," added Raphael Deckert, managing director of BIOVA.
RAPS operates seven production sites in Europe and more than 900 employees worldwide, producing in excess of 38,000 tonnes of different spices, food ingredients and additives each year.
