Carrefour's discount brand, Supeco, has launched an e-commerce site, following the introduction of restrictions on non-essential retail categories.
The process of setting up the online store, which launched in November, took two weeks, from start to finish, Carrefour said.
Non-Essential Retail
The French government's decision to ban the sale of non-essential retail, e.g. toys and clothes, prompted the creation of the e-commerce store, to facilitate the sale of these items in the run-up to Christmas.
The discount retailer carried out user research to ascertain what customers wanted from an online store, and it developed the Supeco platform store based on that.
The store enables customers to browse and purchase a range of items online, and then choose a slot for click-and-collect at the store.
Supeco currently has six e-commerce stores, with plans to increase that number to over 50 in 2021 through expansions into Romania and Spain.
