Swedish retailer ICA has seen its sales rise 2.3% in December 2018, compared with the corresponding month the previous year.
Sales on a like-for-like basis increased by 2.0%, the retailer said.
The group said that for the month of December, sales in ICA stores totalled SEK 11.2 billion, excluding VAT, which is an increase of 2.3% compared to the same month the previous year.
Sales in January – December 2018 amounted to SEK 118.3 billion, an increase of 3.5%.
Banner Performance
In terms of the performance of the group’s banners, its Maxi ICA Stormarknad hypermarket operation saw a 3.1% increase in sales in the month of December (+2.5% like-for-like), while ICA Kvantum was up 2.9% (+2.5% like-for-like), ICA Supermarket was up 0.9% (+2.5% like-for-like) and ICA Nara was up 1.9% (+2.5% like-for-like).
ICA Gruppen estimates the calendar effect for December to be -1.3%.
As of 31 December 2018, the number of ICA stores was 1,277.
