Svensk Handel, the Swedish Trade Federation, has announced that optimism is increasing among Swedish retailers this summer, according to the Swedish Trade Barometer for June.
The barometer reports that the 'Future Indicator' of stores has risen by 6.2 units to a total index of 99.9.
Beneficial Weather
"The pleasant weather has led to stores' optimism increasing for the summer," said Karin Johansson, CEO of Svensk Handel. "During the summer months, traffic is increasing on streets, squares and in the shops. Among e-commerce operators, however, there are those that hope for a cloudier summer."
The future of e-commerce fell by 10.6 units in June to a total index of 109.9. Svensk Handel attributes this drop to the sharp decline in the expectations of future sales, which were quite high in May.
"Online shopping is growing rapidly, and the optimism of e-commerce is still higher than [that of] shopkeepers. A big retail shift is underway, and an increasing share of sales is expected to go through the e-commerce channel in the future," Johansson added.
Grocery retail saw an increase in future expectations, but the biggest advance in terms of optimism was in the area of retail purchasing, which rose by 8.1 units.
