Waitrose Sales Boosted By Warm Weather

UK retailer Waitrose has reported a good performance in sales for the week ending 17 September, largely attributed to the warm autumn weather. Divisional sales rose 3.7% compared to the same week last September, excluding fuel sales.

Barbecue sales saw a 100% increase compared to last year, while ice-cream sales were up by 43%.

Sales at meat counters rose by 32% last week, mainly attributed to the bonus good weather allowing for continued al fresco dining, with salads, delicatessen and Food to Go ranges all soaring in sales. Salad sales alone were up more than 25%.

Continuing the summer food sales boost, chilled snacks were up by 37%, snacking fruit by almost 21% and prepared sushi by 20%.
