A study carried out by Market Force Information has revealed that Waitrose is the best-liked major grocer in the UK, after it scored highest of all supermarket chains in terms of availability of items, store cleanliness, courtesy of cashiers, how easy it is to find particular items, and specialty department services, thetelegraph.co.uk reports.
It was runner-up in the only bricks-and-mortar category it didn’t win – checkout speed, for which Aldi was rated as the best.
Contrarily, Tesco proved to be the least-favourite retailer of the 6,800 shoppers who partook in the survey. Marks & Spencer was ranked as the nation’s second-favourite, followed by, in descending order, Aldi, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons, Asda, the Co-op, and finally, Tesco.
Tesco’s online service, however, polled as the best-liked, followed by those of Asda’s and Sainsbury’s.
Cheryl Fink, Market Force Information’s chief strategy officer, said, “The competition between supermarkets is extremely fierce.
“When supermarkets deliver across all six attributes, shoppers are almost three times more likely to recommend it to others. That’s a huge increase and one that supermarkets need to pay attention to in today’s market conditions."
