Waitrose & Partners has announced that it will extend the trial of its 'While You’re Away' service from 300 postcodes to 818, across the UK.
In October of last year, the retailer launched the pilot project in the vicinity of its fulfilment centre in Coulsdon in south London.
The decision to expand the trial follows positive feedback and regular use of the service by 50 customers that participated in the initial phase of the trial.
'Potential To Revolutionise'
Richard Ambler, head of business development at JLP Ventures, said, "Having to stay home for a delivery can be incredibly disruptive to your day and many of our customers now demand more flexibility.
"This service has great potential to revolutionise the way people do their shopping in the UK and the goal of extending this trial is to find just how much of an appetite there is for the service," he added.
A first of its kind in the UK, the service grants Waitrose delivery drivers access to customers' homes in their absence to deliver groceries.
