Waitrose, Sainsbury’s and Asda have all issued recalls on a number of gluten-free products in light of learning that these goods may in fact contain negligible traces of protein composite, bbc.co.uk reports.
All three retailers are offering full refunds on items such as pitta bread, sultana scones, and pizza bases. The possibility that any given product contains gluten is small, though as what Sainsbury’s has called “a precautionary measure,” the chains are asking that coeliacs and people who suffer from wheat/gluten allergies do not consume the goods, and that they return them.
Waitrose commented, “Any customers who have a reaction to gluten should not consume these products," while Asda said it is “very sorry for any inconvenience caused and will ensure this doesn't happen again"
The caveat applies to products with certain best-before dates. Items affected are pizza bases, multi-seeded pitta breads, white pitta breads, sultana scones, garlic and coriander naan breads, and syrup pancakes.
