Waitrose reports that total sales are up 1.2% on last year, bar fuel sales. Summer foods and drinks have shown strong sales this month, owing to the good weather.
Top sellers are rosé wines, up by 26%, and salads, up by 10%. Ice-cream sales saw an increase of 17%, compared to this time last year.
Barbecuing boosted sales of barbecue fuel and coals by 32%, while meats and burger buns rose by 20%. Corn on the cob saw an increase of 6%.
Waitrose's beer range saw a boost of 16% on sales, and sales of plastic cups, glasses and plates were up by 38%.
