Spanish cooperative Covirán says net sales growth of 4 per cent to €1,215 million in 2015, in a year the CEO and President of the group described as "very positive".
Alimarket.es has reported that Covirán saw sales of €1,114 million in Spain, with the remaining €101 million coming from its Portuguese business.
The company’s sales volumes now represent a market share of 1.7 per cent in Spain and 0.7 per cent in Portugal.
However, in the small supermarket sector (with sales areas of less that 1,000 square metres), Covirán's market share reaches 5.5 per cent for Spain and 2.13 per cent in Portugal.
The cooperative has a total of 2,549 supermarkets functioning under its own banner; 2,361 in Spain and 327 in Portugal.
However, if the number of shops operating under different names that are associated with Covirán is taken into account, the total rises to 3,270 businesses (2,943 in Spain and 327 in Portugal).
During 2015, the cooperative invested over €21 million in development and modernisation.
About one third of the investment came directly from Covirán, and the rest was obtained from associated businesses.
