X5 Opens 7,777th Store In Russia

Russian X5 Retail Group has announced the opening of its 7,777th store in Russia under its supermarket banner Pyaterochka, located in Ukhta in northwestern Russia, a new city for the retailer.

The supermarket is launched under the new Pyaterochka concept, which X5 began refurbishing in October 2013, and so far has rebranded over 5,500 (more than 80%) of its stores in 53 regions.

The new store will offer 4,600 SKUs, over half of which will be fresh produce. The retailer has opened a total of four Pyaterochka in the city, all opened almost simultaneously.

X5 spoke about the new stores in a statement released by the company: "Pyaterochka is fostering cooperation with local suppliers from the Komi Republic, where the chain opened its first store in September last year.

"In less than a year, the share of locally-produced items has reached 90% in selected categories. For the convenience of customers, these items are marked by special eye stoppers saying Made in the Komi Republic."
