Russian food retailer, X5 Retail Group, has announced it has finished stage 2 of its Forpost distribution centre (DC) in Chelyabinsk.
The storage areas will expand the DC by 3.5 times, to a total surface area of 21,000 square metres.
The logistics facility includes storage warehouses for alcohol and dry goods and a banana-ripening room. The warehouses will service the Pyaterochka retail chain in the Urals and Siberia.
The stores currently source an average of 30% of local produce in the Urals Federal District; up to 100% in some categories.
The company hopes to further encourage local sourcing, through the development of its facility. The DC will cover six regions and will service 642 Pyaterochkas.
Coupled with its Kaskad distribution centre, in Chelyabinsk, the Forpost DC will provide twice the total storage for dry goods.
The centre will service stores up to 400km away, using up to 100 vehicles daily.
