Russian retailer X5 Retail Group has announced the opening of its 10,000th store.
The milestone store trades under the Perekrestok banner and is located in Moscow. Nine other Perekrestok stores were opened concurrently with the new outlet, in Arkhangelsk, Kirov, Togliatti, Saratov, Yugorsk, Almetievsk, Yekaterinburg, Lysva, and Novosibirsk.
"Today's concurrent opening of 10 stores, including X5's 10,000th location, marks yet another confident step towards our strategic goal of capturing a 15% market share by the end of 2020," commented the chief executive of X5 Retail Group, Igor Shekhterman.
Store Layout
The store boasts a selling space of over 1,200 square metres, and offers 12,000 SKUs. It has been developed according to the new Perekrestok concept, which has already been launched in more than half of the chain's supermarkets.
The opening of the 10,000th store coincided with the start of 'Going East', an all-terrain expedition organised by the Russian Geographical Society, with food supplies provided by X5. The expedition, which seeks to develop shared infrastructure for the entire country and develop remote areas, will cover 10,000 kilometres in total.
