X5 Retail Group, which operates the Pyaterochka, Perekrestok and Karusel chains, has opened its 7,000th store in Russia, bringing its total number of new openings to 1,500 in 2015.

It is the second time this year that X5 has hit a store-opening milestone, having opened its 6,000th outlet in July in Moscow. In calendar year 2014, the group opened 939 new stores.

“In 2015, we significantly accelerated organic growth rates, and are proud to open our 7,000th store," said Igor Shekhterman, X5 Retail Group chief executive.

"By expanding the company’s geographic presence, we maintain our focus on creating the best-value offer for customers while developing ties with Russian suppliers.”
