Russia's X5 Retail Group has announced the opening of a new 43,000 square metre distribution centre in the Moscow region.
The logistics facility will serve 650 Pyaterochka stores in Moscow and the surrounding areas.
X5 describes the distribution centre as 'one of the most high-tech of its kind is Russia', and aims for the facility to streamline operations and increase labour productivity.
Expansion Plans
X5 Retail says that the new centre will help support the rapid expansion plan that has in place for its Pyaterochka chain, providing a reliable supply of fresh goods, and contributing to lower transportation costs.
The retailer also says that it will 'unlock new opportunities' for local producers, helping them to increase sales and bring products to new regions. The new distribution centre will be able to stock products from over 500 suppliers.
Last week, X5 posted a 24.9% increase in sales for the third quarter of the year, with sales totalling RUB 317,131 million.
The retailer opened 820 new stores during the quarter, and last month it announced the opening of its 11,000th store.
