Rewe Names Long Term Successor For Alain Caparros

Germany's Rewe Group has announced that Lionel Souque is to take over as chief executive at the start of 2019, replacing the current CEO, Alain Caparros.

Souque will take up his position on 1 January 2019, having been with Rewe Group since 1996. He previously led the group's full-range division and its digital business segment.

Souque will take over the role as the head of Rewe Group Germany, which includes the Rewe and Penny banners, in 2017, ahead of ascending to the position of overall CEO.

Jan Kunath has been named deputy CEO, and will assume responsibility for international trade business, shopping and digitization.

Commenting on the news, Barclays European Food Retail Equity Research said, "This is certainly longer-term planning than we normally see in the sector."
