Russian retailer Dixy Group has announced sales growth of 14% in the 12 months of 2016, totaling RUB 311.2 billion (€4.8 billion).
In a statement released mid-January, the company said that like-for-like sales grew 4.4%.
In 2016, the retailer opened 94 new stores, and added an additional 5% selling space year on year, totalling 952,532 square metres. Average basket spend increased by 3.5%.
The DIXY division saw the highest 12 month growth at 15.1% increase year on year, for a total of RUB 252.2 billion. Its Victoria division followed (+12.7%, or RUB 37.5 billion), while the Megamart division was third in growth with an increase of 6.9%, or RUB 19.4 billion.
In the fourth quarter alone, total revenue rose 4.2% year-on-year to RUB 78.1 billion, with the DIXY again division garnering the lion's share of the sales (+2.9% or RUB 62.1 billion).
Dixy Group's general director, Sergey Belyakov, commented: “In the fourth quarter of 2016 we continued to implement our operational turnaround program with the focus on efficiency of operations and customer proposition improvement via assortment optimization and strengthening of the pricing proposition.
"We also successfully increased our footprint in Kaliningrad region in the end of the year with the acquisition of the best locations and properties for Victoria supermarkets”.
He added: “The market remained quite soft towards the end of 2016; customers continue
to be sensitive to various promo activities and demonstrated the willingness to save".
By the end of December last year, the group operated 2,802 stores, including 2,646 DIXY convenience stores, 116 Victoria stores and 40 MegaMart and MiniMart compact hypermarkets, situated throughout 778 locations in Russia.
