2 Sisters Ramps Up Production Following Food-Safety Allegations

UK meat company 2 Sisters Food Group is expanding production at its chicken processing facility in Flixton, creating 100 new jobs at the Suffolk site.

The food manufacturer says that it has upgraded the facility to meet additional demand from its retail customers ahead of the busy Christmas period.

“The upgrade at Flixton will enable us to grow business and provide new career opportunities for people in the region,” said Allison Smith, general manager at 2 Sisters Flixton.

"This is great news for the site and acknowledges the loyalty and capability of our fantastic colleagues that continue to go the extra mile each and every day to supply our customers with great quality, safe chicken.”

Food-Safety Allegations

In October, 2 Sisters suspended operations at its West Bromwich poultry plant, after an investigation by The Guardian and news organisation ITV raised allegations in relation to food safety and hygiene.

The plant in question was reopened early last month, after the food group retrained its staff in all food-safety and quality-management systems, with procedures overseen by officials from the Food Standards Agency.

The company supplies chicken to top UK supermarkets, including Tesco, Marks & Spencer, Aldi and Lidl. It is the UK’s second-largest food company by turnover, operating 12 production sites in the country.
