Leading discounter Aldi is set to build a £59.5 million new distribution centre in Wales, which could lead to the opening of 10 new stores and the creation of up to 900 jobs.
The new centre, to be located between Newport and Cardiff, will supply stores in South Wales and the South West of England, creating 414 jobs in a variety of roles.
According to southwalesargus.co.uk, the multi-million pound investment is supported by the Welsh Government with £4.5m business finance, which ensured the project was secured for Wales.
With this major investment the discounter could open up to ten new stores in Wales over the next five years with the potential to create a further 500 jobs.
The site, in Wentloog, will be 40,000 square metres and construction is already underway. When completed, the distribution centre will provide a central space for storage, delivery and distribution of products.
A spokesperson from Aldi said, "We are delighted to have the support of the Welsh Government and to be creating over 400 new jobs in Cardiff, underpinning Aldi’s commitment to Wales. We are pleased to be able to offer more people the chance to shop at Aldi and benefit from our everyday low prices and high quality products."
The centre will be fully operational at the beginning of 2017.
