It's being reported that Amazon has snapped up a former Tesco warehouse as it readies for the imminent launch of it's grocery business in the UK.
The online retail giant has agreed a 10-year lease on the former Tesco distribution centre in Weybridge, Surrey, according to retail-week.com.
The online retailer, which already operates its grocery service, Amazon Fresh, in several US cities, is said to be close to launching in the UK, with some reports suggesting it could be as early as next month.
Amazon has reportedly agreed a deal with logistics facilities owner Logicor to take on its 304,751 sq ft warehouse in Weybridge, which already has some food-handling facilities such as chiller cabinets.
Tesco vacated the premises at the end of 2014 and it has been unoccupied since.
The launch of Amazon Fresh is expect to pile further pressure on the UK's struggling supermarket sector, which continues to grapple with a slump in sales and profits.
