Auchan France has signed a new ‘commitment charter’ that it says will create an equitable distribution of value across its supplier base, particularly for those working in the agricultural industry.
The charter aims to put in place a renewed contractual structure to guarantee remunerative income for each actor in the agri-food sector, in particular, agricultural producers.
In practice, Auchan Retail France is asking suppliers of food products to incorporate into their discussions with the retailer a full breakdown of their associated costs and production methods. It also aims to take into account the impact of fluctuating raw-material prices on its supplier base.
The charter was announced by Patrick Espasa, executive chairman of Auchan Retail France, last October and was signed on 14 November.
Auchan Retail France said that it is "committed to developing the implementation of sustainable and equitable partnerships with its agri-food suppliers and producers of raw materials".
