French retailer Auchan has opened a new cold logistics platform at Lot-et-Garonne, in Samazan, France.
Opened through its subsidiary Scofel Aquitaine, the centre is over 6,000 square metres in size.
The site, located between Bordeaux, Brive, Pau and Toulouse, will enable Scofel Aquitaine to supply 39 stores with fresh produce. This includes some 14 hypermarkets, 12 Auchan Drive outlets, 12 Chrono Drive outlets, 1 Auchan Direct, and other stores in the south-west region of the country.
According to Auchan, 42,000 tonnes (28 per cent) of the volume treated each year by Scofel Aquitaine is produced in the region.
Scofel Aquitaine's previous platform was situated in Carbon-Blanc, near Bordeaux. It had been in operation since 2006. The firm Thalium provided the platform, representing an estimated €8 million to Scofel Aquitaine, which signed a 12-year contract with the company.
The site will be further developed to a size of 9,600 square metres.
