The Horizon purchasing alliance has announced that it will procure outdoor eggs that will be sold as private-label products in Auchan Retail, Casino Group and Schiever outlets from April 2019 onwards.
The eggs will be produced in farms where hens live in the open and are fed GMO-free, 100% French cereals. They will also not undergo any antibiotic treatment.
The eggs will be sold in recyclable and biodegradable packaging designed and manufactured in France.
The approach is intended to establish a long-term contract between the parties involved in the supply chain.
For outdoor eggs, Auchan Retail, Casino Group and Schiever will engage with stakeholders for at least three years, for a guaranteed minimum volume.
Pricing
The pricing of the eggs will be based on a confidence pact between all stakeholders, including farmers, food suppliers, and distributors.
It will also have provisions for a half-yearly review, to ensure fair remuneration for each stakeholder in the supply chain.
In June of this year, Casino Group, Auchan Retail, Metro and Schiever Group established a set of purchasing alliances under the name Horizon.
Horizon is also discussing supply chain mechanisms for other items that can be sourced from the agricultural sector, as a part of the commitment it made during France’s National Food Conference.
