Spanish retailer Caprabo has announced that its new distribution centre for fresh produce in Barcelona will commence operation in June of this year.
The retailer has teamed up with CILSA, a company owned by the Port of Barcelona and the manager of the ZAL Port - MERLIN Properties, for the construction of the facility located in a 31,000 square-metre plot in the municipality of El Prat de Llobregat.
The Warehouse
The new 24,600 square-metre warehouse will store all fresh produce supplied by the retailer to its 300 supermarkets in the country.
It will be equipped with state-of-the-art refrigeration technology and the construction will comply with the strictest sustainability criteria, the company said.
Apart from the warehouse, the campus will also house the company’s new headquarters and the online supermarket Capraboacasa.
CILSA has invested €20 million in the project, which will enable Caprabo to offer better services to new generation stores and improve the efficiency of its operations.
