Carlsberg has announced that its Feldschlösschen brewery in Switzerland has added a 26-tonne electric truck from Renault Trucks to its fleet.
The brewery, located in Rheinfelden, is to add 19 more eco-friendly trucks from the company over the coming months, until spring of 2021.
The initiative will enable Feldschlösschen to deliver climate-friendly beer and beverages to customers across the country.
'A Leading Role'
CEO of Feldschlösschen, Thomas Amstutz, said, “We are proud to see our pioneering work with electric trucks, which began several years ago now, finally paying off.
“We are the first company in Switzerland and even Europe to use these environmentally friendly trucks for beverage transport. Our ambition is to take on a leading role in both the development of beers and beverages and in beverage logistics and climate protection.”
Initially, the trucks will be used at Feldschlösschen for test drives and driver training.
By the first quarter of 2021, the brewer aims to deliver its products via this fleet to clients in the catering, retail, and beverage trade from 12 logistics centres.
The new vehicles are the first electric trucks to be manufactured in series production by Renault Trucks, Carlsberg added.
The move is part of the company’s Together Towards ZERO sustainability programme and aims to make the distribution process CO2-neutral in Switzerland.
