Carrefour has announced that it has entered negotiations with Altarea Cogedim, a real-estate investment firm, for the acquisition of Rue du Commerce.
Rue du Commerce is a major player in the non-food e-commerce market in France, and boasts more than five million unique visitors per month.
In a statement, Carrefour said that the investment would enable the retailer to "accelerate its omnichannel strategy in France and strengthen its position in non-food e-commerce by leveraging additional expertise."
The deal is still awaiting final approval from both parties, and will also be subject to competition-authority approval should it go through.
