Carrefour France is at present running its first-ever ‘responsible fishing week’.
The event, which began on 20 February and will finish on 26 February, is designed to highlight the retailer’s commitment to marine sustainability and quality of practice.
It will be an annual undertaking, and has the support of the Aquaculture Stewardship Council, the World Wildlife Fund, and the Marine Stewardship Council.
Material pertaining to Carrefour’s responsible practices in its fish-food SKU supply chains will be ranged in its hypermarkets all across France for the duration of the event.
Carrefour’s Belgian and Spanish arms recently removed pangasius fish products from their stores for environmental reasons. The Swiss retailer Coop has pledged to use 100% sustainable fish products.
It is a trend that is moving throughout the retail supply chain. The producer of John West products, Thai Union Group, also recently announced that it will source 100% sustainable tuna.
