Carrefour and Intermarché have commenced selling chorizo SKUs bearing the Consorcio del Chorizo label, which guarantees authenticity of origin and production method.
Since the creation of the Consorcio del Chorizo group in September of last year, over 500 tonnes of the Spanish meat have been sold bearing its logo. Outside Spain, France is the largest single consumer, and consumption there has been increasing steadily for the last five years, LSA.fr says.
So far, about 20 companies are represented by the Consorcio del Chorizo.
It 'guarantees chorizo is of Spanish origin, and of superior quality', the body says. This involves a particular recipe, and livestock that is born, raised and slaughtered in Spain.
