Carrefour Italia, has seen a 60 per cent increase in sales of milk products, from the Piedmont region.
The result comes only three months after the retailer teamed up with Italy’s Piedmont region, to launch the “Piemunto” brand, to label certified products made exclusively from local milk.
According to regional councilor, Giorgio Ferrero, the result shows that “consumers choose local products when they are recognizable, regardless of the cost".
Over 150 milk, yogurt and cheese products, subjected to stringent quality controls and bearing the "Piemunto" logo, are distributed in more than 100 Carrefour stores in Piedmont.
Regional dairy companies adhering to the initiative include Valgrana, Biraghi and Cascina Fontanacervo.
